"Hey, you promised to do whatever I say! Put me down!"
Fearing Astrid might get upset, Elio reluctantly set her down.
The airport was crowded, and soon enough, someone recognized Astrid.
A passerby, phone in hand, pointed it right at her. "Is that Astrid? It's Astrid, isn't it?"
"A real superstar!"
"Even celebrities should keep it low-key in public, right? Such displays!"
"Astrid, my daughter is such a big fan of yours!"
Despite Elio and Selena trying to shield her, the crowd pressed in, phones nearly touching Astrid's face.
"Could you please keep your phones at a reasonable distance?" Elio asked, trying to stay polite for Astrid's sake.
The crowd obliged, backing off slightly, and they finally made it through security.
Astrid quickly slipped on her mask and hurried toward the gate. "Elio, you don’t need to see me off. Go back, someone will pick me up when we land."
"Your condition isn’t great; I wouldn't be at ease unless I see you there myself," Elio insisted, taking hold of Astrid's hand.
Instinctively, Astrid tried to pull away, but Elio tightened his grip. "It’s perfectly normal for a husband to hold his wife's hand. I'm just exercising my rights."
"Ha, just because I didn't immediately reject your cheesy proposal doesn't mean you've leapfrogged to husband status, Elio. Who gave you the audacity?" Astrid retorted, noticing he had stopped walking.
"What now?" she asked, puzzled.
Elio’s eyes gleamed with excitement. "What did you just say?"
"I didn’t say anything," Astrid replied, feigning innocence.
