Agnes stood firmly in front of Elton, her eyes blazing with determination. "Mr. Whitfield, if you don't leave this instant, I'm calling the cops. You've assaulted someone, and if we press charges, things won't end well for you."
Jared chimed in, his voice laced with skepticism. "You're really going to stand up for him, Agnes? Do you even know what he's done to you in the past? Why let yourself be fooled by him again?"
Agnes shook her head, her words steady and unwavering. "I don't care about the past. Right now, I need you to leave. I can't accept a violent man as someone I once called my husband. Thank you, Mr. Whitfield, for showing me your true colors."
Jared shot her a long, hard look, unwilling to argue further. Instead, he turned to Elton with a sneer. "What kind of nonsense have you fed her, Elton? Taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable state—how low can you go?"
Elton met his gaze evenly. "I admit I took a chance, but Agnes and I grew up together. We were meant to get engaged as soon as we could. You know I was set up by Jenny back then. You came between us and whisked Agnes away. So if we're talking about taking advantage, Mr. Whitfield, you're no saint either."
"But you messed up first. What makes you think you can just waltz back in and fix everything? You think your little setup with Jenny was just a misunderstanding? You're just using Agnes’s amnesia to twist the truth. You're still deceiving her."
