Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1335

Agnes was lost in thought as she gazed at the photograph.

Just then, Jared walked into the room. Seeing Agnes there was a surprise for him.

He paused for a brief moment, then continued inside.

His tone was calm and composed, "What brings you here?"

Agnes still had the photo in her hand. She quietly set it down.

"We were just passing by, so I came up," she replied.

Jared stepped closer and said, "Let me pack up, then we can head home together."

He moved toward the couch to grab his jacket.

But Agnes stopped him. "I'm sorry, Mr. Whitfield. I can't go back with you."

Jared's hand froze on his jacket. His entire body went rigid. He slowly stood upright and turned to face her.

His voice was suddenly colder, "What do you mean?"

For a moment, Agnes couldn't bring herself to meet Jared's gaze.

But she had made up her mind and knew there was no turning back.

"Mr. Whitfield," Agnes began, "You told me to take a year to think things over, but a year is too long. I've already made up my mind. I can't be with you. I don't want to betray my own heart or let life become a tangled mess. I'm sorry that I've lost all memories of us, but I can guess that even if I remembered, our family came together out of necessity because of the child. So, if fate has brought me back to this point, it's to correct past mistakes. I'm sorry, Mr. Whitfield."

By the time Agnes finished speaking, Jared understood everything.

He withdrew his gaze from her, his eyes cast downward.

Agnes couldn't discern his expression, but the chill in the air around him was unmistakable.

She felt like she was standing in an icy cavern.
