Agnes took a deep breath and said, "Elton, what's going on? I don't want you keeping secrets from me."
Elton seemed reluctant to meet her gaze, which only confirmed Agnes's suspicion that something serious was up.
After a pause, Elton finally spoke, "Agnes, I'm scared that if I tell you, you'll leave me."
He looked up, locking eyes with her. Agnes had never seen Elton look so vulnerable before. He had always been the carefree, optimistic son of a wealthy family, sometimes a bit spoiled but always bright and sunny—like a sunflower basking in the sun.
But now, his eyes were clouded with anxiety and despair, a stark contrast to the cheerful persona he usually projected. Agnes felt a heavy weight in her chest, as if a stone was pressing down on her heart.
She sighed, lowering her head. "Elton, I'm not going to leave you. I promised that no matter what happens, we'll face it together."
Agnes had already made up her mind after Jenny's revelations. If there had been any doubt before, it was gone now. She and Elton had known each other since childhood, promising to love each other for a lifetime. To Agnes, Elton was more than a boyfriend; he was like a brother, a part of her family.
Seeing him so lost and helpless was unbearable.
