On the floor where Elton was staying, there wasn't a soul in sight. The corridor was impeccably clean, almost sterile in its neatness. To Agnes, Elton was always her Elton. No matter how angry she got, no matter how deep their disputes ran, she could never truly abandon him.
As she walked down the long hallway, Agnes finally reached the door to Elton's hospital room. But as she approached, she heard noises from inside, the unmistakable sound of someone talking. Even more startling was the fact that she recognized the voice—a woman's voice she hadn't heard in a long time.
With each step closer, the familiarity of the voice grew more pronounced. By the time she was standing just outside the door, Agnes realized who it was. It was Jenny. Her heart sank like a stone.
Since waking up, Agnes hadn’t seen Jenny. Everything she knew about Jenny now came from Elton. At eighteen, Agnes and Jenny had been inseparable, the best of friends. But Agnes could have never guessed that this friend would alter the course of her life so drastically.
Agnes stayed by the door, listening but not daring to enter. She heard Jenny's sharp voice pierce the quiet.
"Elton, you’ve lost everything now. With just a snap of my fingers, I can make all your years of hard work vanish. Your precious company, built with blood, sweat, and tears, will be gone. Are you really willing to throw it all away for Agnes?"
Elton's deep voice resonated from within, steady and unyielding. "Jenny, your efforts are wasted on me. You’ve always wanted to control me, but not this time. You can have everything you want, but no one will come between Agnes and me."
