Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1310

Jared suddenly burst into laughter.

He wanted a divorce?

Agnes watched Jared with a curious look as he laughed unexpectedly.

Jared spoke up, "Agnes, do you know how many times you've brought up divorce?"

Agnes was taken aback.

It felt like she had been slapped out of nowhere.

Had she really mentioned divorce before?

Jared chuckled, albeit a bit sadly, "You once promised you'd never utter those two words again, yet here we are."

Agnes looked at the man across from her.

The deep disappointment and sorrow in his eyes seemed to seep into her, making her feel it too.

She found herself at a loss for words.

"Did we... used to be happy?" Agnes asked, a hint of doubt in her voice.

"Of course," Jared replied.

He looked directly into her eyes, "Did Elton tell you otherwise?"

The mention of Elton's name was laced with an unmistakable hostility.

Agnes shook her head, "No."

Jared said nothing more.

After a moment, Agnes' phone rang. It was Elton calling.

She glanced at Jared before getting up to take the call in another room.

Jared had already guessed who it was but didn't follow her. Instead, he sat on the edge of the bed, quietly watching Nocturne, their son, who lay asleep.

His heart ached terribly.

But he felt the most pity for his son.

Growing up away from him, and just when they had finally built a home together, his beloved mother had forgotten him.
