Agnes was taken aback. "Sleep disorder?"
Jared replied, "I'll explain it all to you slowly."
Agnes felt like her life had turned into some sort of dramatic sitcom.
Why did the most unbelievable things keep happening?
She glanced over at the little boy nearby. He must have had a tough life, too.
Jared continued, "Agnes, you've lost your memory. It's okay if you don't remember me, but I want to know what's on your mind. Did you come back just to see the kid?"
Agnes felt a pang in her chest.
There it was—the topic she had been dreading.
"Mr. Whitfield," she began, "I'm sorry. I can't wrap my head around a lot of things right now, including our marriage. I need some time."
Jared's voice was sincere. "I won't pressure you. Take all the time you need, but stay with me. You're my wife. We've been through so much to be together, Agnes. You can't leave me again."
His words only deepened her guilt.
He had no idea about her affair.
Surely, she wasn't worthy of his love.
Without her memories, she didn’t know how to handle this sudden marriage and a husband who felt like a stranger.
But knowing her marriage was a mess made things even more complicated.
After all, in her current state, the only person she remembered was Elton.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Whitfield," Agnes said. "I really haven't figured things out yet, but I can't be with you."
It was better to be straightforward.
In her current state, it was impossible to accept a man who felt like a stranger, even if he was once her husband.
