Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1286

For Agnes, everything felt foreign now.

This world was no longer the one she knew. Only by staying close to Elton did she feel any sense of security.

Agnes agreed.

Dinner was done, and the evening was still young.

Agnes felt the urge to explore the neighborhood a bit, and Elton was on board with the idea.

They planned to take a walk and see how the city had transformed over the years.

But when Agnes changed into a fresh outfit and stepped out, she found Elton by the bed, caught up in a heated phone call.

Elton sounded angry, as if arguing with the person on the other end. In all her memories of him, Agnes had never seen Elton so out of sorts.

His frustration boiled over, and he punched the wall, startling Agnes.

Elton turned just in time to see Agnes standing there.

He quickly ended the call and stepped in from the balcony, trying to compose himself.

Agnes, puzzled, asked, "Is everything okay?"

Elton forced a smile, "Nothing major, just some issues with the team. They bungled a deal. Did I scare you just now?"

Agnes shook her head, "Do you have more work to handle? Maybe we should skip the walk tonight. You should take care of your stuff."

Elton looked a tad guilty, "But I promised to take you out. We're leaving early tomorrow."

Agnes chuckled softly, "Really, I'm fine. It's getting late and I'm tired anyway. You go ahead and finish your work."

Elton nodded, "I'll be back soon. You should get some rest, and I'll wake you up in the morning."

Agnes nodded.

Elton left.

Yet, Agnes couldn't shake a feeling of disappointment.

Her memories were tied to this city, and truthfully, she had no desire to leave it.
