Jenny said, "Elton, even without those two, you'll always have others around you. I've got money and influence now, and there's nothing I can't do if I set my mind to it. You'd better come to the airport right now to pick me up so we can discuss our matters. Otherwise, I'll let Jared know that Agnes is still alive, and your entire plan will go up in smoke."
Elton seemed to regain his composure.
He let out a couple of cold laughs.
"Since you have this ace up your sleeve," Elton replied, "why didn't you tell Jared right away? You've known Agnes is with me but kept it to yourself for a whole month. What are you up to?"
Jenny responded, "Exactly, it's an ace. Naturally, I had to hold onto it until the right moment. If you and I go down in flames together, I'd suffer too. We can talk, Elton. Just meet me, and you'll understand my intentions."
Elton considered her words carefully and, after a long pause, agreed.
Once he hung up, his fingers trembled silently.
This Jenny.
What a conniving, shameless person. What exactly does she want from this?
Elton was filled with dread.
He had always known that the news of Agnes being alive might not stay hidden forever.
But to be found out in just a month?
He knew Jenny's character all too well.
If he refused to meet her and she really told Jared, everything he'd painstakingly arranged over the past month would be for nothing.
If he could just overcome this hurdle.
He and Agnes could return to Manhattan.
Elton had already set everything up there.
New identities, new names, even new jobs.
Everything was perfectly in place.
