Jenny chuckled, "How could I be bothering you, Elton? You seem to forget, I'm about to become Mrs. Taylor. Isn't it only natural for Mr. Taylor to pick up his fiancée after she's traveled all the way back?"
Without missing a beat, Elton replied, "Jenny, I'm calling off our wedding. Please, don't interfere with my life anymore."
Jenny's voice betrayed little surprise, "Elton, are you backing out?"
Elton's voice was cold and devoid of any particular emotion, "Yes, I am."
Jenny smiled to herself, "You're with Agnes now, aren't you? Just a month ago, there was that big story in the Australian news about a kidnapping and a woman falling overboard. Everyone thought that woman was gone for good. That was Agnes, wasn't it? But she survived. You saved her and got her treated in a private hospital in some outback town. She was released just yesterday, am I right?"
Elton's expression changed dramatically, "How do you know that?"
Jenny's laughter rang through the phone, "I might not know much about others, but when it comes to you, Elton, I know every little detail. No matter how well you hide things, even arranging a new identity for Agnes, nothing escapes my notice. Amnesia, huh? That's quite amusing. You think that just because Agnes has forgotten her past, you can start fresh with her? You're too naive, Elton. I bet you haven't told her about everything that's happened over the years. What do you think she'll do when she finds out you've been deceiving her all along?"
Elton's face darkened ominously.
Jenny even knowing about Agnes's amnesia was unsettling.
Apart from him, the doctor, and his long-time assistant, no one else was supposed to know about this.
Elton's voice turned sharp like a dagger, "So, you've bribed someone close to me?"
