Jenny teased in a playful tone as she approached Elton. She smiled warmly and said, "Elton, you're back! Why are you standing there in a daze? Hurry and get some plates and silverware; dinner's ready!"
Watching Jenny, Agnes couldn't help but think they resembled a couple hosting a friendly dinner party. Jenny had a true knack for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, instantly making the kitchen feel like the heart of a joyful home.
Esther, glancing between the adults, seemed thrilled. "Daddy's home today, and my favorite Agnes and her family are here too," she mused.
Tugging at Elton's hand, Esther said in her sweet, childlike voice, "Daddy, I'm hungry. Can we get the plates and silverware together?"
Elton, usually a bit reserved, softened at Esther's voice. He ruffled her fluffy hair and went to get the dinnerware.
The six of them sat down to eat, surrounded by familiar faces that now felt strangely different to Agnes. Thankfully, Esther's bubbly chatter lightened the mood. She was curious, asking endless questions, and Agnes found herself engaging with her the most. However, Agnes noticed that Esther was eating from the same menu as the adults. Jenny hadn't prepared any special dishes for her, unlike when Esther lived with Agnes, and Jared would make her unique meals daily. It wasn't anything elaborate, but given Jenny's earlier attitude, Agnes found it hard to bring it up directly. It was something for Elton and Jenny to discuss.
