Agnes sighed deeply, "In every place where life thrives, there's both sunshine and shadow. I've just chosen to face the sunlight, that's all. The past is something I'd rather not revisit. But now, I have my own life, and you've carved out the life you wanted for yourself. Let's not make things difficult for each other anymore. Perhaps it's best if our paths don't cross too often from here on out."
Jenny responded, "But I haven't achieved the life I dream of yet, and you're the only one who can help me achieve it."
A chill seemed to run down Agnes's spine, "What are you implying?"
With a smile, Jenny said, "You know exactly what I mean. I want to marry Elton. That's the life I yearn for."
Agnes had suspected as much all along. Jenny's return from abroad was for Elton. Marrying him was likely her ultimate goal.
Agnes replied, "That's something between you two. How can I possibly help?"
Jenny insisted, "Elton doesn't listen to anyone but you. If you suggest he marries me, he'll consider it."
"Jenny, your idea is ludicrous. Elton and I are no longer involved. Why would he care about my opinion, especially on such a significant personal matter? Even if he did listen to me, I wouldn't interfere. If he's not willing to marry you, it's better to let go. A forced marriage won't bring happiness."
Jenny pressed on, "Agnes, I'll be blunt with you. I will marry Elton, by any means necessary. If you assist me, we can both avoid unnecessary complications. But if you refuse, I'll find another way regardless."
