Agnes felt the urge to get up several times. All she could think about was Jared. Where did these thugs come from? Who were they, and what did they want? Jared was right outside. Could he be the first one they ran into? They all had guns. As soon as they burst through the door, they started firing wildly. Agnes couldn't bear to think about it. Her heart seemed to stop with each gunshot.
But maybe it was her instinct as a journalist. Agnes somehow managed to take a short video on her phone. But then Elton stopped her.
"Are you out of your mind? If they spot us, we're both goners," he whispered.
After all, the phone's light could attract attention. Agnes couldn't make any bold moves. Silently, she put her phone away. All Agnes wanted was to get out of there. But Elton was desperately holding her back.
"Jared should be fine. We didn't hear any shots before they came in," he said, as if reading her mind.
