Agnes froze in her tracks.
Elton spoke up, "Is it that unbearable to see me?"
Agnes frowned upon hearing this, feeling an overwhelming sense of discomfort. Turning around, she said, "Mr. Taylor, you should address me as Ms. Pritchard or… Mrs. Whitfield."
Elton's expression subtly shifted, yet Agnes looked at him with a calm demeanor.
Finally, Elton couldn't help but laugh. It seemed he didn't care about what Agnes had just said. Continuing, he called her by her first name, "Agnes, are you still holding a grudge against me?"
Agnes furrowed her brow, "Mr. Taylor, I don't see what business we have with each other. If you're referring to what happened five or six years ago, I can assure you, I harbor no resentment. We parted on good terms, and that's in the past now. Let's not bring it up again."
Elton was reminded of their breakup. He had pleaded for her forgiveness, asking for another chance. But Agnes, in tears, refused. By then, Jared had already taken a special place in her heart.
Was that really parting on good terms? She had no idea how heart-wrenching it was for him at that time. The period he spent trying to get her out of his system made him feel like death would have been a mercy. There was a night he nearly drank himself to death in his room, wishing she would look back at him. But she didn't. The person who came wasn't her.
