A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 810

In this tense situation, Matilda couldn't keep her cool any longer. When Yvan lunged at her again, she aimed for a spot just below his ribs, where the body is pretty vulnerable, and jabbed him hard.

She heard him let out a muffled grunt, his movements coming to an abrupt halt. Yvan's entire body shook violently, as if struck by intense pain, and his face turned ghostly pale.

Matilda had taken self-defense classes over the past six months, so she knew where to strike to stop an attacker. But she never expected Yvan's reaction to be so intense.

Yvan clutched his side in agony, his knuckles white from the strain. Matilda, in a panic, glanced at him, realizing she might have struck around the kidney area.

Yvan didn't utter a word, just held his side and struggled to his feet, letting out a harsh cough. The sound of it sent a shiver down Matilda's spine. She hurriedly pulled her clothes around her, clutching them tightly, and with one last glance at Yvan, bolted out of the hospital room.

She fled as though escaping a relentless pursuer.

Watching her retreating figure, Yvan was struck by a sense of déjà vu. Had he seen her slender shoulders leaving his world in the past too?

As Matilda left, the door closed with a resounding thud, echoing like a drumbeat against his chest, sending a shiver through his soul.

The man slowly curled up in the corner, clutching his side, as if that could somehow ease the pain. He trembled, his body wracked with spasms.

He wanted to call Lance to check on him, but as soon as he dialed, a fit of coughing left him spitting blood.

"Matilda... if our days are numbered, we might as well spiral down to the depths of hell together."

...

As Matilda rushed out, she nearly collided with Declan coming down the hallway from the opposite direction.

They bumped shoulders and both came to a halt. Declan stepped back, surprise etched on his face as he took in Matilda's disheveled appearance. "You..."

Matilda looked up, eyes red, clothes askew.
