Hearing Donna's sarcastic remarks, Matilda didn't say a word. She walked past as if Donna were invisible, completely unfazed by her mocking.
Donna, whose dad happened to own a small share in an entertainment company, often strutted around the office like she owned the place.
She believed the world revolved around her, but Matilda didn't buy into her act, which infuriated Donna to no end. "Matilda, why aren't you saying anything?" Donna shouted after her.
"Nothing to say," Matilda replied with a mocking smile. "I've got nothing to say to you."
"What do you mean by that?" Donna stepped forward, grabbing Matilda's shoulder. But recalling how fierce Matilda could be, she hesitated and pulled back slightly. Matilda noticed the hesitation and smirked, "Just what it sounds like."
While Donna fumed with rage, Matilda remained overly calm.
The contrast only highlighted how ridiculous Donna looked. Matilda continued walking, with Donna trailing behind, yelling, "Stop right there! Why are you here again today? Yvan isn't around—who are you trying to flirt with now?"
Matilda clenched her fists. "Stop projecting your dirty little thoughts onto me. Just because you're not clean doesn't mean everyone else is."
This implied that Donna was projecting her own tactics onto others, always ready to throw mud.
Donna's face twisted with anger. "Do you think I'm like you? Who do you think you are? The Thompson family is bankrupt, yet you still parade around like some high society princess. You're a fallen star, pretending to be high and mighty!"
Despite Donna's harsh insults, Matilda held her temper, refusing to engage, which only made Donna more agitated. "I'm not like you. Do I need to flirt? My family doesn't need the money. My dad's a shareholder here. Unlike you, who's hanging onto Yvan because you can't find anyone else. Now you're here trying to cozy up to other executives while Yvan's away!"
Her voice was loud enough to draw attention in the lobby. What began as a spat between two women quickly escalated to personal attacks, and now curious gazes and whispers were directed at them.
