The street was bustling with cars weaving back and forth. Among the vehicles, a few cars lined up perfectly and cruised along at the same speed. They looked out of place in the chaotic traffic around them.
Lucien drove around without direction, turning back now and then to ask, "Where are we going?"
Besides Lucien, there were three other people in the car—two were alive and one was dead. The living ones were Dominic and Leo, and Isaac was the deceased.
Dominic's expression showed nothing but fear and anxiety.
That day, Dominic had spotted Isaac outside of Opulent Club, so he had gone over to butter Isaac up. Minutes later, he was met with Isaac's dead body. The whole thing felt so surreal that he was in a daze the entire time.
The older men in Dominic's family had all been in the military, so he was well aware of the Wood family's influence there. They were a prominent family that could mobilize hundreds of thousands of troops.
Horace, the head of the Wood family, could point at anything and make it the target for legions of soldiers. Anyone or any force the Wood family set its sight on was as good as gone.
Yet, Dominic was somehow caught up in this mess. The body of Isaac, the Wood family's heir, was right next to him.
Dominic was at a loss about what to do next. He pulled out his phone to call his dad for some advice but quickly put it away. He didn't want to get his dad involved.
In the end, he thought about Brad and hurriedly dialed his number.
…
A car was parked by the curb. An old man crouched there in his sandals, smoking his cigarette. Several cars were scattered around in the distance, standing guard.
The sun blazed down from the sky, and the street was empty, without a person or even a dog in sight.
Skylar Manning, the Company Commander, frowned and approached Brad. "How about we smoke in the car? It's scorching out here, and it's easy to get heatstroke in this weather."
