Barrett was a crazy old man. More importantly, Matthew had just killed Gideon, who was also from the Genesis Sect.
Hence, he was eager to get away from Barrett. "I'm sorry. I don't know a Genesis Sect. I don't know you either."
Barrett found that somewhat disappointing. "Since you don't know who I am, it means you don't have a high enough station to know about me. Regardless, I've decided to take you on as an apprentice. Let me show you today what your mentor is capable of."
As he spoke, he abruptly thrust his hand toward Matthew's heart.
Matthew was surprised. He didn't expect Barrett to fight when he was already so old.
Moreover, Barrett's attack was vicious. He had aimed for Matthew's heart. Reflexively, Matthew blocked Barrett with his elbow and smacked him across the face.
The slap made Barrett see stars and knocked him to the ground. He looked at Matthew, dumbstruck.
Barrett was a martial artist. Though he was old and no longer had explosive strength or stamina, he could still unleash terrifying force within tens of seconds.
Despite it being only seconds, he thought it would be enough to take Matthew down. Regardless, his sneak attack was unsuccessful.
"You… You're a martial artist, too?"
There was a cold glint in Matthew's eyes. "You'll get lost now, right?"
Barrett was even less willing to leave now. "I won't go. I'll lie down right here. I have to make you my apprentice."
During this trip, he'd learned nothing except being unreasonable and shameless. It was an incredibly effective move for an old man.
Matthew said coldly, "Being shameless, huh? I'd suggest you take a closer look at who I am. If you dare to be brazen and lie there, I will bury you."
Barrett noted Matthew's cold eyes and dispassionate, solemn voice. He didn't appear to be bluffing.
