Kamilla strolled over, a confused look on her face. "Where's my brother and mom?"

"They're inside."

She paused at the doorway, her hand raised to knock, when the door swung open. Lucian stood there, his piercing gaze landing on Penelope.

Penelope felt a twinge of guilt. She hadn't expected Kamilla to show up just as she was eavesdropping. It was a close call, but thankfully, Kamilla hadn't caught on to anything.

Penelope couldn't bring herself to meet Lucian's eyes as she held out the tray. "I brewed some tea for you guys downstairs. It's this special pear tea I brought back from Rongcheng, great for soothing the throat and reducing heat in the body."

His voice was even, betraying no emotion. "So you just got here?"

Her face paled. "Yes... yes, that's right."

Lucian observed Penelope's shifting expression, then turned to Miranda. "Mom, I've got something to take care of, so I'll head back now."

Miranda was still reeling from the shock, but she managed a nod. As Penelope approached with the tea, Miranda lost all appetite for it. She pursed her lips. "Penelope, dear, I'm feeling a bit tired and would like to rest. Don't you have a shoot to get to? You better hurry along."

Penelope spoke earnestly, "Aunt Miranda, you've always had weak lungs. This pear tea is perfect for cleansing and balancing the body. I met this herbalist while filming in Rongcheng, and he prepared this blend just for you. Drinking it morning and night will do wonders for your health."

Miranda couldn't reconcile Penelope's seemingly sweet nature with the cunning persona Lucian had described.

Penelope left, and Kamilla entered the study.
