Zachary mused, "Do you have any proof that Pete was behind the chandelier incident?"

"We've got the guy who tampered with it in custody. He confessed after we traced a payment to his account from Pete's personal funds."

"But what does this have to do with Penelope? Would she really risk her unborn child? If things had gone worse... Look, we can't let your mother find out unless we have solid proof linking Penelope to this. She's been wracked with guilt since the miscarriage, fasting and praying for the past year. I can't bear to break her heart."

Lucian nodded, "Mom knows, but she doesn’t believe it."

Zachary continued, "Once everything settles, let her have the baby under the Sullivan's care. They'll ensure her safety. After the child is born, we'll know the truth. If he’s not yours, we cut ties with the Flanagans. But if he is a Sullivan, you’ll have to marry her."

Lucian closed his eyes, "Dad, I don't love her. I don’t want to marry her, and I certainly don’t want to wait a year. I’m in love with someone else."

"Is it Allison?" Zachary asked, already familiar with the name.

Lucian nodded.

"Dad, I’ll find the evidence to prove the child isn’t mine. Until then, Penelope can stay with the Sullivans, but I won’t marry her. She saved my life, and for that, I’m grateful, but I need to follow my heart now."

Zachary nodded.
