To Allison's surprise, Lucian showed up after all.

She had prepared a refreshing fruit salad with watermelon, peaches, and pears. Picking up a fork, she speared a juicy piece of watermelon and held it out to him. He opened his mouth obligingly as she fed him the slice. "Sweet enough? I cut it this morning; it should still be good."

"Mhm."

After a bite of pear that turned out to be a bit tart, Allison squinted slightly and offered a piece to Lucian. He too seemed taken aback by the sourness, but a mischievous glint danced in Allison's eyes as she continued to feed him. Lucian looked at the pear but still ate it, and before long, they had gone through half the bowl.

"Too sour for you?"

"What do you think?" Lucian replied.

Allison chuckled. "I think it's rather sweet."

"Well, if you find it sweet, then so do I." He meant it; anything she shared tasted sweeter to him.

Feeling the conversation was both silly and dull, Allison commented, "I didn't expect the pears to be so sour. They were so plump at the store. How deceiving. Here, have some watermelon instead."

"You go ahead. We've got an hour left. Finish up and rest a while. I'll take you out to dinner tonight."

"You sure you don't want any? I can't finish all this by myself." She held out another watermelon slice to him. As he took it from her hand, his tongue accidentally grazed her fingers. Allison's eyelashes fluttered; that man was definitely doing this on purpose!

The last piece of watermelon lay in the container. She bit half and teasingly offered him the rest. Without hesitation, he ate it.

"You don't mind that it's been bitten?" she asked, eyes wide.

"What's there to mind?" Lucian cracked the window, letting in a breeze, and smiled. "Your saliva? I've had my fair share."
