Once they were out of earshot, Ivan and Jared found themselves in a deserted hallway.
Ivan finally noticed something was off.
"Ivan," he asked, "what's really going on between you and Agnes?"
Jared's voice was calm but tinged with resignation. "You know she's lost her memory."
"That's not what I mean. Even if she's lost her memory, she's still your wife. She should be by your side. But from the looks of it, you two are like strangers."
Jared let out a bitter chuckle, his voice carrying a hint of helplessness. "Strangers? We're probably worse than strangers right now."
"What do you mean?"
Jared explained about Elton to Ivan.
After hearing the story, Ivan, usually composed, clenched his fists. "What a despicable opportunist."
The two men fell silent for a moment.
Ivan finally spoke up, "Elton is truly vile. Who would have thought he kept Agnes hidden all this time? If she hadn't bumped into you, we might never have found her."
Jared nodded, the thought chilling him to the core. Elton had clearly planned it all.
Had it not been for that fateful encounter, Agnes might have been hidden away for a lifetime, living under a new identity, just like she vanished those four years ago.
