Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1303

Jared stared at Agnes, his eyes unwavering.

After a moment, he finally spoke, "Yes, we have a son together. His name is Nocturne."

"Nocturne? But isn't your last name Smith?"

"The child doesn't have my last name; he has yours. There's a story behind that, which I'll share with you someday."

Agnes nodded thoughtfully, asking, "Can I see him?"

"You're his mom, of course you can. He's been worried sick since you disappeared a month ago."

Agnes thanked him politely, "Thank you."

Every polite word from Agnes felt like a whip lashing Jared, piercing his heart with barbs that left him raw and aching.

Just then, the waiter brought their food to the table.

Jared gestured to the plates, saying, "These are all the dishes you used to love. You might not remember what they taste like anymore."

Agnes felt a pang of nostalgia. "Did we come here often?"

"Quite regularly," Jared replied. "You loved their tofu ice cream and seafood pasta. I ordered both."

Agnes sampled the food. Each dish was to her liking, the flavors as delightful as promised.

Yet, the man across from her made her uneasy.

Once they finished the meal, Agnes said, "Can we go see the child now?"

Jared replied, "I’ve been busy lately and couldn’t take care of him myself, so he's been staying with a friend. I'll take you there now."

Jared attempted to stand but struggled due to his injured foot. Earlier, his secretary had helped him up the stairs.

Now it was just the two of them.
