The boy Agnes remembered was nothing like the man standing in front of her now. Elton was almost unrecognizable.
Gone was the brash young man who seemed to have the universe revolving around him, always at the center of attention, glowing with a charisma that drew people in. Agnes was surprised to see an Elton who had grown more reserved and composed.
Back when Agnes was eighteen and Elton twenty, he was still just a big kid at heart. But now, he had the look of someone who had weathered storms, with stories etched in the lines of his face.
Agnes couldn't fathom what they had both gone through over the years to bring about such change, but she knew it must have been a lot.
Her health was gradually improving day by day. Elton had promised that once she was fully recovered, they'd head back to Manhattan. However, Agnes longed to visit her homeland. Even though it had been five years since everything had happened, those memories still felt fresh and unexpected to her. She had never felt this homesick before.
When she shared her thoughts with Elton, he was against it. He reminded her that they had sold everything back home, including the Pritchard family estate. They had left everything behind when they settled in Manhattan, not planning to return. Besides, without an ID or any papers, which she supposedly lost on the cruise, going back seemed impossible. Elton insisted they needed to get back to Manhattan to sort out her documents.
