Samuel walked up next to Elton, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Buddy, I know you cared about Miss Septima, but you gotta face the facts. She fell into the sea, and in these freezing waters, not even a miracle can save her. She might have been hit before she went overboard. Even if we tried to find her, it’d be like looking for a needle in a haystack. She’s probably gone..."
"Get off me, you bastards!" Elton shouted, his voice raw with emotion.
He struggled fiercely, trying to free his wrists from the handcuffs, blood trickling down his arms.
Samuel sighed, shaking his head. "Look at you. If I let you go now, you'd probably jump overboard after her. You're Sean's brother, and he's already lost a sister in this mess. I'm not about to let you throw your life away too."
With that, Samuel turned and left, leaving Elton bound and seething with anger and despair.
Elton's eyes were wild, like a cornered animal, his heart shattered in a way he never thought possible. This pain dwarfed the heartbreak he felt when Agnes left him for Jared. Back then, he thought nothing could hurt more than that. But now, watching helplessly as Septima vanished before his eyes, he realized there were far deeper agonies.
The mercenaries quickly cleared out, leaving the deck eerily empty except for Elton and Kearney’s lifeless body, sprawled in a pool of blood. It was as if the chaos had never happened.
