Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1254

Agnes slipped into the throng of people, her eyes scanning the crowd with an intensity that belied the festive atmosphere around her. The room was alive with the scent of expensive perfumes and the soft rustle of silk against tuxedos. Couples leaned in close, whispering sweet nothings, while others twirled gracefully across the dance floor. Some guests, wine glasses in hand, stood on the deck, captivated by the endless ocean stretching beyond them.

But Agnes had no time for such distractions; she was on a mission. Her sole focus was finding Phenix, and as she wove through the crowd, Elton trailed behind her at a respectful distance, ever the silent sentinel.

Despite her efforts, Agnes found neither a trace of Phenix nor a hint of Kearney. It seemed they hadn't made it to this lavish cruise party after all. A wave of disappointment washed over her. She and Elton had scoured every promising spot on the ship that day, yet their search had come up empty.

Where could they possibly be? If they weren't here for leisure, what was Phenix's purpose on this cruise? The questions swirled in Agnes's mind, each more worrying than the last.

Lost in thought, she found herself at the edge of the deck, her fingers curling around the cold metal railing. The sea stretched out before her, vast and unyielding, with waves that seemed to mock the ship’s grandeur, making it appear as insignificant as a leaf on the wind. Above, the night sky was a tapestry of stars, like scattered diamonds against the ink-blue expanse. The horizon where the ocean met the sky seemed to dissolve into a shadowy abyss, stirring an unsettling feeling of mystery and dread in her heart.

Elton approached, two glasses of wine in hand. "Don’t worry too much," he said, offering her a glass. "It’s only the first day, and the odds of finding them right away were slim. No news is good news, right?"

Agnes accepted the wine with a nod, though his words did little to ease her anxiety. "But if something does happen, it might be too late to do anything about it," she replied, taking a sip and savoring the brief distraction it offered.

Elton gestured towards the horizon. "The view's quite something, isn't it?"

She nodded absently. The beauty of the scene was undeniable, yet she couldn't bring herself to appreciate it fully.
