Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1171

Agnes felt a shiver run down to her fingertips. The man standing before her was a ruthless devil in disguise. Yet now, he wore a mask of deep affection.

Agnes spoke up, "Kearney, you're the one who's turned Phenix into what she is now, aren't you? You've been drugging her milk, haven't you? How could you? You went as far as to harm her."

Agnes had once thought that if Kearney had any humanity left, it was for Phenix. She believed he truly loved her. But now, Agnes realized she was mistaken. Kearney only loved himself, going to any lengths for his own ends. He used harming Phenix as a means to create this illusion. This wasn't love. It was just a twisted form of possession.

Kearney gazed at Phenix with a deep, dreamlike affection. After a long while, he stood up. When he looked at Agnes, his eyes were calm, like still water.

Kearney said, "Don't you think she's better off this way? She believes her beloved is still alive, living with her every day. This is the life she wanted. If she were to wake up, the pain would be unbearable."

"But this isn't reality; it's an illusion you've created. She'll wake up one day, and she won't be able to accept it."

"No, she won't wake up. She'll see me as him, and I'll take care of her for the rest of her life."

Kearney's words were meant to sound affectionate, but to Agnes, they were chilling.

Agnes said, "Kearney, all this tragedy is your doing. You've killed so many people and turned Phenix into nothing more than a puppet. Kearney, you'll get what's coming to you."
