Jack, a former special forces soldier, was in remarkable shape considering the severity of his injuries. Just two days later, he was moving about as if nothing had happened. However, every time Herbert came in to check on him, Jack feigned weakness, barely clinging to consciousness. The charade was all to lull Herbert into a false sense of security.
On the day Herbert came in to deliver their meal, little did he know that Agnes had been hiding in the basement, losing track of whether it was day or night. Seizing the opportunity, Jack ambushed Herbert from behind, knocking him out cold before locking him in a cage.
"I'm going to scout the island's layout. Wait here for me," Jack instructed Agnes.
Despite her concerns, Agnes knew they had no other choice but to take the risk.
With Herbert regaining consciousness shortly after, he found himself behind bars yet didn't panic. "Miss Septima, what's going on?" he asked, puzzled.
Agnes, running out of patience, demanded answers about the outside world, Kearney's plans, and the well-being of her godfather.
"All hope for Albert to come rescue you seems thin, Miss Septima. He has no idea you're here," Herbert sighed. "Kearney is after something big. He's always been the caretaker of Albert's Arms, but the real power and wealth are locked away, accessible only to Albert himself. You, Miss Septima, are Kearney's secret weapon, though he's yet to deploy you."
