Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1158

He looked just like one of those elite gents, perhaps even more meticulous about his appearance than those top-tier tycoons. At first glance, he exuded a charm that could captivate anyone. Agnes recalled how Princess Anne from the Alexandra dynasty had fallen head over heels for Kearney at first sight. And all these thoughts flashed through her mind in just a few seconds.

Ding—

The elevator doors slid open. Agnes never knew that beneath this island lay a basement. This basement resembled a high-tech research facility, with rows of transparent rooms, each sealed with clear glass doors. Yet Agnes saw all kinds of equipment within. Something felt terribly off.

Kearney stepped out of the elevator and headed straight in. Agnes followed, passing the small rooms filled with various gadgets, only to encounter a different scene: cages with iron bars. And in one cage, Agnes saw a person, barely recognizable. The figure was bloodied, curled up in the cage as if lifeless.

Kearney chuckled, pointing at the person in the cage. “You must be quite familiar with this man, Septima.”

Agnes’s heart began to race. She slowly approached, finally recognizing the face. It was Jarvis. Agnes gripped the edge of the cage, “Jarvis, Jarvis, what happened to you?” She couldn’t believe it. Just a few hours ago, Jarvis had called her about tracing the origins of some firearms, linking the chaos at Phenix’s wedding back to Kearney. She had planned to meet Jarvis at a bookstore near the Ford Hotel. But now, just a few hours later, here he was, beaten to a pulp, barely holding on.

Agnes couldn’t believe her eyes. Where did it all go wrong? Jarvis was a special forces soldier; how could he have been so easily captured?
