Agnes knew she was stepping into dangerous waters. She couldn't just rush in, guns blazing. For now, all she could do was hash things out with Jarvis and figure out a plan. Throughout the journey, one question haunted Agnes: Should she tell Reggie right away?
Losing Sean had already knocked the wind out of Reggie's sails. And now, Phoenix seemed like a shadow of his former self. If Reggie found out everything was linked to Kearney, and that Kearney might even be gunning for him, would he be able to withstand another blow?
Agnes was torn. But deep down, she knew it was a conversation that needed to happen, sooner or later. On her own, Agnes was fighting a losing battle. The turmoil inside her was almost too much to bear. If only Jared were here with her now.
Agnes drove slowly, her mind a tangled web of thoughts, wary of causing an accident. Despite her caution, Agnes still managed to crash into a black Mercedes. At first, Agnes thought it was her own carelessness that led to the collision. But as she came to her senses, she realized the car had deliberately blocked her path.
Before Agnes could make heads or tails of the situation, four men dressed in black emerged from the Mercedes. Their faces seemed eerily familiar, as if she had seen them somewhere before. It didn't take long for them to pry her car door open. One of them said, “Miss Septima, Mr. Kearney requests your presence.”
Mr. Kearney? Kearney? A shiver ran down Agnes's spine. Why now? And in such a manner? Agnes tried to keep her composure. “What does Kearney want with me?” she asked.
