The young boy was practically bouncing with excitement as he spun around, a huge grin plastered across his face. But the smile froze in an instant. "Uh-oh..."
Standing before him was a girl, her dark eyes steady, an eyebrow slightly raised, lips pressed into a thin line as she stared at him coldly.
Finally, realization dawned on him.
He quickly stepped back, only to bump directly into Mondot.
Mondot shifted to the side.
As he moved, the boy moved too!
Mondot frowned and took another step away.
The boy hastily followed suit!
Mondot sighed, exasperated.
The boy started to tremble, darting behind Mondot, using the tall man as a human shield. His voice came out in a nervous stutter, "Sis... I mean... um, Eileen..."
Eileen clenched her fists tightly, and in a flash, she drew her pistol, loading a bullet into the chamber, aiming it squarely at the boy.
He ducked, hiding completely behind Mondot, not even a sliver of his clothing visible.
The gun was now pointed directly at Mondot.
Mondot raised his hands in a gesture of peace, "Let's not get hasty."
Eileen glared at him, "Then move out of the way!"
Mondot would have loved to!
But he couldn't exactly move when the boy had a death grip on his shirt and belt, keeping him firmly in place.
With a resigned sigh, he said, "I have no idea what's going on, but could you let me go first?"
No way the boy was letting go.
He clung to Mondot, peeking out just enough to mumble, "Eileen... take it easy, please."
Eileen's face was a thundercloud. "Get out here!"
The boy protested loudly, "Do I look stupid? Come out so you can hit me? No thanks!"
Eileen let out a humorless laugh. "So you know you deserve a good smack, huh? Come on out!"
The boy dug in his heels, "Nope! Not coming out, not in a million years!"
Eileen was getting increasingly frustrated, trying to aim at the boy who kept darting left and right, always managing to stay just out of her line of sight.
The boy was slippery and sly, adept at hiding!
Even though he was just a few feet away, Eileen couldn't do anything about it with Mondot in the way!
She turned her wrath on Mondot again, "Move!"
Mondot was getting annoyed too, "You think I don't want to? Make him let go!"
The boy chimed in defiantly, "Why should I be the one to move? No way!"
Eileen snapped at Mondot, "Move!"
Mondot retorted, "I told you, make him move first!"
The boy insisted stubbornly, "I'm not moving, I'm not moving, I'm not moving!"
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Eileen, at her wits' end, fired three shots into the air, finally putting an end to their ridiculous back-and-forth.
But then, another gunshot rang out.
"Bang!"
In the distance, one of Mondot's teammates, seeing their leader in trouble, shot towards Eileen's feet, trying to scare her off.
Eileen's expression darkened considerably. With a swift motion, she turned her aim to the fastest runner in Mondot's team, and shot her square between the eyes.
[Notification: Eileen has eliminated Julia.]
Mondot glanced down at the alert on his smartwatch.
His face paled as he stared at Eileen. "You're... you're Eileen?"
They had always assumed Eileen was a man!
The boy peeked out again, his voice small and hesitant, "Eileen, let me explain..."
Eileen put her hands on her hips, "Fine, come out and explain."
The boy wasn't having it, "I'm too smart to fall for that!"
"Ha!" Eileen let out a short, cold laugh. "Then don't bother explaining!"
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away.
As she strode off, the boy hesitated for a moment before finally releasing Mondot, picking up a large turkey from the ground, and chasing after her.
This unexpected drama left Mondot completely bewildered.
