Chapter 72
Thompson pulled out a seat for Josephine and motioned for her to take it. As she sat, she asked in puzzlement, “What do you mean it’s someone I know? The only person I know from your section is Pearl.”
Pearl quickly waved her hand. “We’re not talking about me here.”
Thompson hit the “play” button and swiftly grabbed the vase from the table. “See for yourself, Josephine. The security footage will answer any questions you have.
The high–resolution security footage showed Pearl heading toward the receptionist on the first floor with a shoebox and asking her to call the courier service. The receptionist set the shoebox on the counter before dialing the courier service’s number.
Everything seemed normal up to this point, though the security footage confirmed that the receptionist had lied when she said she never touched the shoebox. Josephine was beginning to wonder if the courier service had switched out the shoebox when a person, whom she never expected to show up, appeared before the receptionist.
There was a vicious, cunning gleam in her eyes as she glanced at the shoebox and asked, “Do these shoes come in a size 6 and a half?
Josephine heard the conversation that ensued between the woman and the receptionist, loud and clear. Her heart thundered. Could Nadine be the one behind the sabotage? But to what end?
“Go and look in the back,” Nadine ordered the receptionist, her rising temper successfully driving the latter away. As the receptionist hurried off, Nadine opened the shoebox on the counter and swapped the limited–edition shoes with a pair that she just bought.
Josephine’s fists clenched in her lap as she stared at Nadine’s profile on the footage. Her rage threatened to consume her. She cursed Nadine inwardly. Nadine had sent her taunting texts to get Zayn to divorce her, but Josephine ignored them all.
She saw no point in fighting with Nadine. If Zayn did not love her, Nadine wouldn’t be the first woman he cheated on her with Sooner or later, some other woman would come into the picture and become the next homewrecker.
Not that it was any excuse for Nadine to stoop so low. As far as Josephine could recall, she had never done anything to hurt Nadine that warranted such outrageous, despicable treatment
Thompson noted the tears that had welled up in Josephine’s eyes and asked hesitantly, “Josephine When you told me Zayn stole your dress and gave it to someone else, you meant Nadine, right?
“I looked into her on the internet and learned that she’s an artist who recently signed with Forbes Group. The dress she wore to Arthur’s party happened to be the one you designed ”
It was such a casual reveal of the
most bitter truth, Josephine felt her blood run cold as her fingers dug into her palms. “It’s her.”
Thompson slammed his fist against the table. “This woman’s sick in the head! Didn’t she know there were security cameras in the shop? Or did she pull off this stunt because she knew you couldn’t do anything about it?”
Josephine did not take her gaze off the computer screen. “Call the cops.”
“The cops?” Thompson was bewildered. For a moment, he thought Josephine must have gone into shock. “Are you sure?
She stared at him and asked, “Will it get you into trouble?”
