Tears welled up in Sophia's eyes. "Yes, Marcus is gone! He didn't make it to M State!"
Thaddeus furrowed his brows in thought, said nothing, and turned back into the room, leaving the door open for Sophia.
Seeing no response from her father, Sophia hurriedly followed him in. "Dad! Dad! You have to say something! I'm freaking out!"
Thaddeus calmly picked up a glass of water from the suite's coffee table. "Say what?"
Sophia, frantic, stomped her foot. "Get in touch with the guys you sent to pick up Marcus!"
Thaddeus looked at his stubborn daughter, picked up his cell phone, and dialed one of his men. After activating the speakerphone, he put the phone aside.
Sophia then heard the automated message indicating that the call could not be connected. The system automatically ended the call.
The hope in Sophia's eyes completely vanished. "How...how could this be? Dad, please send someone to find him! Please!"
Thaddeus, seemingly having anticipated the unsuccessful call, showed no surprise. He calmly took a sip of water before speaking, "Don't you get it? He's been wanting to leave you. Finding him now won't make any difference!"
Sophia lifted her arm to wipe away her tears and stubbornly countered. "It will make a difference! Dad, find him, and I'll figure out the rest!"
Thaddeus slammed his glass down on the table. "Enough! How long are you going to be so deluded?! Everyone can see that you're not in his heart! He doesn't even want to touch you! Why would you want a man like that? If he ran, let him run; just stop searching for him!"
Sophia, in her frenzy, knocked everything off the table. "No! I must find him! He's mine; he belongs to me! I want to be with him, have his children, and live my life with him!"
