"Marlinie, rest assured. Even if the Howard family were to discover your presence here, I won't let them in." Bertha kept reassuring Marlinie.
Marlinie gripped Bertha's hand tightly. "Then help me get discharged, please..."
"Marlinie, because of your condition, you can’t be discharged, and it's too late today either way. Wait for tomorrow. I’ll have Thaddeus arrange your transfer to another hospital, okay?"
Tears welled up in Marlinie's eyes as she nodded. "Yeah, I hate to impose on your family, especially Thaddeus."
Bertha breathed a sigh of relief as she saw Marlinie finally calm down. "It’s no imposition at all, Marlinie. Just remember to keep calm. It's the fastest way for your wounds to heal."
Marlinie lay down weakly on her hospital bed. She began staring at the ceiling without uttering another word.

Ida returned to the VIP ward upstairs but did not enter. Instead, she sat on the bench outside the room, lost in thought.
Seeing that Ida had not returned from the restroom, Byran came out to find her. He spotted Ida sitting outside the room and approached her. "Ida, why are you sitting here? Why don't you go inside?"
Ida looked up at him, snapping herself back to reality. "Your father needs to rest. I don’t want to disturb him."
Byran struggled to suppress his happy grin. “Heh, Ida, you're always so thoughtful. You seem to care a lot about your future father-in-law.”
Ida rolled her eyes at him and stood up. "I need to leave.”
Byran grabbed her wrist. "Wait, let me walk you out."
"You should stay here with your father. I can drive myself home."
