Annika saw it when Matthew was stopped outside. She even sized him up, noticing he was young and dressed casually. She couldn't help but frown as he didn't look like he did well in life.
She figured that without Lance, Matthew wouldn't even get to enter Arcadia. But since Lance said so, Annika had to keep up appearances.
She hooked her arms around Matthew's as they headed inside. "Aren't you a doctor, Mr. Grant? That's awesome. Can you do a checkup for me?"
Matthew raised an eyebrow and hummed in acknowledgment. Then, he turned to Lance and said, "I still have a small business to attend to, so let's reschedule. We can catch up over drinks some other time."
Lance held Matthew's hand. "You've got to give me a chance to raise a glass to you, Dr. Grant."
Seeing how sincere Lance was, Matthew agreed. "Alright. Let's have a drink sometime then."
As they chatted, they made their way to the sixth floor.
After entering a private room, Lance added with a grin, "Why don't you sit for a bit, Dr. Grant? I'll go get a nice bottle of wine. I can't bring out anything ordinary for someone like you. Just hang on. I'll be back soon."
With that, Lance left Annika to accompany Matthew as he quickly left.
Feeling impatient, Matthew had the urge to get up and leave to confront Wyatt. But seeing how enthusiastic Lance was, Matthew felt bad about just walking away.
Annika seemed to sense Matthew's intention. She giggled and held out her hand. "Would you mind giving me a check-up, Dr. Grant?"
As she spoke, she put her delicate hand on Matthew's palm and playfully traced her finger on it.
Matthew chuckled. He rested his fingers on Annika's wrist as he shut his eyes and calmly monitored her pulse.
Annika saw how serious Matthew was with the examination instead of taking advantage of her. She chuckled.
"I just got my health checked, and everything's fine."
Matthew fixed his gaze on Annika's face for a long while, and his expression started to look bewildered.
Annika felt even more disdainful. She knew she was attractive, but it was the first time she met a man who couldn't take his eyes off her. Worse yet, he was only watching and wasn't brave enough to make a move.
It only pointed to the fact that Matthew wasn't rich. Money gave men confidence, and wealthy men were often bold. So, he was merely a broke coward.
