Matthew hurried to the main entrance of Craig Shaw's, the mayor of Campbell Town, villa and walked right in without hesitation. The place was lively that day.
Ten of the houses, including Sebastian's, had been demolished. Campbell Town was close to Lambda City, so the land prices were through the roof.
Craig received a commission of 600 thousand dollars for every house demolished, and tearing down ten houses meant 6 million dollars.
It was a big celebration, and ten or so burly men were drinking together with Craig in the yard.
Suddenly, Craig saw a stranger entering his yard, so he shouted, "Who are you looking for?"
Matthew looked around and couldn't find Sebastian. "I'm looking for the mayor."
Seeing Matthew come empty-handed, Craig coldly responded, "I'm the mayor. What do you want?"
Matthew took a deep breath and contained his anger. "Where's Sebastian?"
Craig immediately got on guard. "What's your relationship with him?"
Matthew fixed his gaze on Craig and replied, "I'm Sebastian's friend. Where's he? Where are you holding him?"
Matthew was part of the medical sects' community, and Sebastian was the successor of Thermodra Sect. This was too complicated to understand, so he didn't feel like explaining anything.
Just a friend? Craig scoffed. "What age are we in now? Are you really going to stick up for Sebastian? You'd better think twice. Standing up for a friend could get you badly hurt."
Was that a threat? Matthew's gaze turned sharp. His voice was cold as if it came from the abyss of hell.
"You can't intimidate me. How can you tear down Sebastian's house without his consent? And what right do you have to kidnap him? Give him back."
On what grounds? Craig suddenly burst into laughter and shouted at the group of burly men drinking. "Show him what gives me the right to do so, fellas."
In a flash, the dozen or so men stood up at once. Some grabbed the bottles from the table, some picked up chairs, and some even pulled out daggers. All of them sported menacing expressions as they moved toward Matthew.
Craig faced Matthew and coldly said, "I've got numbers on my side, and I've got powerful connections too.
"Let me spell it out for you. If I want to take you out, it's as easy as giving the word. I'll count to three. If you're still here, don't blame for what happens next. One!"
With an ominous look, Craig stared at Matthew. As he started counting, he gestured to his men. The burly men continued closing in on Matthew. In the blink of an eye, they were only ten feet away from him.
