The Great Medical Saint novel Chapter 496

Matthew never thought that Caleb had that sort of relationship with Jane. However, all of these were just empty words to him. A grifter would never tell the truth.

"You sound like you're telling the truth, but I won't believe you!" Matthew said.

Upon hearing that, Caleb became even more anxious. "I really am telling the truth. You have to trust me! Their original target was Old Fox.

"In the world of grifters, Old Fox is the master among the experts. Besides, he once won the bet over me where I lost my eyes to him and installed an electronic eye and microcomputer.

"The first and foremost target of Red Wolves is Old Fox. They don't think I'm worth their time at all. But… Old Fox really is a sly one!

"Who knows how he caught wind of that news and decided to lock himself up to hide from Red Wolves?

"In the end, Red Wolves set me up and kidnapped my wife and kids to make me obey their commands!"

So, the reason Darrell was in jail was due to this particular reason?

At first, Matthew didn't believe Caleb at all, but now, he seemed to have started to trust him a little. At the very least, it was true that Darrell landed himself in jail.

When Caleb noticed that Matthew was in deep thought, he continued, saying, "Everything I said is true. Just think about it.

"Grifters like us spend immense effort to master our skills so we can earn some money and live a carefree life. No one would like to live as someone else's pawn.

"If it weren't for my wife and kids, do you think I'd be stuck playing poker in this tiny room?

"In the past, I always used to play hands worth millions. The winnings from a round of Blackjack here don't even come close to what I used to tip the dealers!"

Matthew nodded as he thought about it. With the electronic eyes Caleb had installed, he wouldn't be stuck in this tiny room if he wanted to win big bucks.

Matthew then turned to Jane and kicked her lightly. "I know you're awake, so stop acting!"

Jane fluttered her eyelids for a little and stopped afterward. Then, she waited for a while before she slowly opened her eyes. She couldn't put on her act of being unconscious any longer.

She gently massaged her chin as she stood up. It was still hurting as if she had just taken a hit.

Seeing Matthew standing there, Jane quickly put on her charming smile and said, "Matty, didn't we agree to drink at my house tonight? Why'd you hit me all of a sudden?"

Matthew replied in a frosty tone, "Aren't you gonna say anything?"

Jane flashed her charming smile yet again and locked her mesmerizing eyes onto Matthew's cold and stern ones.
