Rachel immediately turned around. Upon seeing Matthew, her cold, attractive face looked surprised. "How come you're back? I thought Tracy said you were taken away."
Matthew didn't want to bring up the Wood family so that Rachel wouldn't find out he'd committed murder. Hence, he brushed it off with a simple excuse.
"They've got the wrong guy. But forget about me for a second. I really need to know. Do you think of me as such a loser?"
Rachel's icy demeanor softened with a tinge of bitterness. Matthew was undoubtedly outstanding, and his medical skills were the best she'd ever seen. On top of that, Matthew was pretty competent.
With his help, Rachel managed to get a solid footing in the Carter family. He sorted out her business problem and even rescued her from Sheldon. They had a few intimate moments together as well.
In the quiet of the night, Rachel would lie awake in bed, reminiscing about her time with Matthew. She couldn't stop thinking about the passionate moments they shared.
During their first time in the car, Rachel was drugged and went all out, clinging to Matthew as she couldn't get enough of him. The second time, they pulled over at the roadside, and she was amazed by how skilled he was.
Then, they also had their moments in the office. She was worried about getting caught by her staff, but he was so mischievous that he made her moan.
At this point, Rachel realized that being with Matthew gave her more happiness than she'd ever had in her whole life.
When Matthew confronted Rachel with the question, she really wanted to tell him that he was her first and her favorite person.
But she held back from saying it because she was worried that Matthew might want to get back together. Given how influential the Wood family was, Isaac would go after Matthew.
After a pause, Rachel's expression turned grim. "Yes, you're that pathetic. Now that you're back, I'm leaving."
Her eyes were filled with agony as she spoke. She didn't mean any of it, but she said so to keep him safe.
Matthew quickly stood in front of Rachel and blocked her path. "You look like you're not feeling great, and your attitude's gotten even colder. Your condition is getting worse and needs some treatment. I'm available to help whenever."
Rachel immediately blushed. Glaring at Matthew with misty eyes, she snapped, "Pervert!"
With that, Rachel walked off in a huff. Upon hearing those familiar words, Matthew was reminded of all their playful banter.
As Rachel left, Matthew kept his eyes on her until she was gone at the door. Then, he turned to Tracy and asked, "Did she come here because of me?"
