The Great Medical Saint novel Chapter 270

Silas shook his head at Matthew's words. "Easier said than done. I almost died just now. I don't want to experience that again. What exactly is her goal? What does she want?"

Matthew had a clue, more or less. The Clark family's research on telomeres might be her motive. They seemed to have made a bit of progress on prolonging life.

The theory on telomeres was highly similar to the Gugleni Sect's hypothesis. There was a hypothesis about telomeres—after a person reached 30 years old, as long as their telomeres kept extending, they could become immortal.

The Gugleni Sect believed humans were formed through the process of internal energies growing together.

After a person reached 30 years old, their internal energies would become unbalanced, and their lifespan would be shortened.

If the weaker energy was nurtured and brought into balance with the stronger energy, life would be prolonged.

Matthew suspected that the Clark family intended to apply the Gugleni hypothesis to their telomere research.

He could tell Silas about that, so he did. "They want to study the secret of immortality."

Silas' expression shifted dramatically. "They're crazy. I can't believe this kind of lunatic exists in this day and age. Have they got nothing better to do? Pursuing fanciful things like this will get a lot of people killed."

Matthew had never seen Silas so riled up. "Is it really that serious?"

Fear appeared in Silas' eyes. "You have no idea. Every time someone researched that, many people died. I can't believe in this age, where technology is advanced and they all but distrust traditional medicine, they still believe in such an absurd idea as immortality."

Matthew patted Silas' shoulder. "Their work has already yielded results. They managed to extend life expectancy by 1/24."

Silas was stunned for a moment, then smirked. "1/24. That's only extending life by three or four years. Getting enough rest and watching your diet can prolong your life by five to ten years, at the very least. Their research is utter shit."

Matthew looked surprised. Silas' tone had amused him.

Silas turned back and saw Matthew's expression. He coughed and said, "Let's go back. This place… It makes me uneasy."
