But it looked like Ethan didn't notice. He just frowned and turned back, picking up his conversation with Yvan.
I looked away, a mix of emotions running through me.
Madison must have caught my disappointment because she gave my shoulder a light pat. "Don't get discouraged. There'll be other chances. Hey, take a look. Who's that woman beside Ethan?"
I followed her gaze and saw a woman in a red dress practically glued to Ethan's arm, whispering something in his ear. She was tall, gorgeous, and had this magnetic confidence that made it clear she knew exactly how to work a room.
Jealousy burned inside me, and before I could stop myself, I blurted out, "She's just a flirt in a fancy dress!"
As soon as the words left my mouth, I regretted them. What was wrong with me?
Noticing my discomfort, Madison smoothly changed the topic. "Don't mind her. We need to move fast. How about you talk to Yvan and see if you can get anything useful out of him? I'll keep an eye on you from here."
I nodded, taking a deep breath to calm myself. "Okay. Let's do this."
With that, I grabbed a glass of wine and headed toward Yvan.
"Mr. Jaeger, it's great to meet you," I said with a smile. "I'm Laura Lambert, a reporter with Stellar Magazine. Would you be open to an interview?"
Yvan gave me a once-over, then flashed a smile. "Oh? An interview? You magazine folks sure have guts. Fine, I'm in a good mood today, so I'll let it slide. But don't push it with any questions you shouldn't ask, or I won't be so nice."
