Rewriting My Heart's Fate novel Chapter 548

Madison and I felt like we were in deep trouble. A chill ran down our spines.

"Uh... we..." I stammered, my mind scrambling for a good excuse.

Madison was quicker. She immediately explained, "Sir, you're mistaken. We're the new cleaning staff here. We just got lost."

She pulled out a cleaning ID badge from her pocket.

I felt a wave of relief and quickly jumped in. "Yeah, yeah, we just got lost. That's all."

The guy stared at us in doubt, then took a closer look at our ID badges. After a long pause, he grunted.

"Cleaning staff? This floor is for the CEO's offices. What are you two doing up here?" His tone was getting sharper. "And earlier, you were lurking by the door, spying, weren't you—"

"Enough, let's not make this harder than it needs to be," a man interrupted, his voice calm.

I turned around and was surprised to see Yvan. He'd somehow appeared at the door and was now sizing us up.

"Mr. Jaeger!" The guy greeted him right away, his tone softening. "These two—"

"It's fine," Yvan said with a smile, waving it off. "It's normal for new staff to get lost around here. Just be a little more careful next time."

He then gave Madison and me a nod. "Thanks for all your hard work. If you need anything, just let me know."

With that, he turned and walked away briskly.

I stood there frozen, unsure of what to do. Someone was being this polite to me for the first time, especially in such an awkward moment.

Madison elbowed me and whispered, "What are you doing? Come on, thank him!"
