If the venomous creature was not brought under control, Maurice would die.
Pete prided himself on knowing Felicia well enough. She wouldn't just stand by and watch Maurice die in her place. Her moral compass and sense of guilt simply wouldn't let her. That was the confidence behind the conditions he stated.
But Felicia simply let out a sharp laugh, her gaze dripping with disdain as she looked at Pete like he was no more than a piece of trash. Her tone was scornful, cutting through the air like a blade.
"Pete, I think you've made a critical mistake."
"Oh?" Pete raised an eyebrow.
"The place you guys want me to go to… It must be quite important to you, right?" She tilted her head, then continued, "Let me guess… that place must be related to that map. Or rather, it's tied to the mysterious location marked on it.
"If I'm not mistaken, you need me to reach that place or accomplish whatever you're after. Without me, none of this works, does it? Which means… I'm indispensable to you," she voiced out her speculations slowly.
After seeing the expressions of Pete and the robed man change, she said, "Ah, so I'm right."
She smiled. "When you're asking for help, you're supposed to act like it. The proper approach would be to get on all fours and beg for my assistance, not strut around with that irritatingly smug expression. Got it?"
Pete's expression darkened immediately.
Felicia knew too much. As a pawn, she should just obediently listen to his orders, not fight back!
The robed man's expression wasn't much better. If it had been earlier, he could've easily used the Heart Eater to control Felicia, and everything would have been solved without going through all this trouble.
