That had to be a feint!
"Who could have done this?" Stanley murmured.
Stephan seemed to have expected this outcome. He raised an eyebrow and casually replied, "Pete, from the Carrell family."
"But what does Pete want with Johanna and Archie?" Stanley was even more confused. "A corpse and a defenseless woman—what use could they be to him?"
The situation was indeed puzzling.
Stephan walked to the windowsill and looked at the fresh footprints left behind. It wasn't hard to deduce that the moment Pete realized he had been exposed, he immediately fled from the Carrell family.
And where it was most dangerous, it was also the safest, so he came to the Russell residence, going against the obvious.
To act under the very nose of the enemy was truly audacious!
But what Stephan couldn't understand was why Pete didn't use this chance to escape to a place he could never be found but instead came to the Russell residence. Was it really just to rescue Johanna?
Or was it that his original goal wasn't Johanna at all but someone else? Perhaps because he couldn't find or capture the intended hostage, he settled for taking Johanna instead?
At this thought, murderous intent flashed in Stephan's eyes.
"You'd better hope you can hide for a lifetime… or you'll die!"
…
Three hours earlier, Pete sat on a rosewood chair, holding a delicate and beautiful cat in his arms. He gently stroked its smooth, satin-like fur, and the cat purred in his lap.
At that moment, his phone rang.
