Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen novel Chapter 354

Carlson Lopez was about ready to lose his mind!

He had just wrapped up a harrowing operation, barely returned to base for less than a day, when orders came down from the top brass. He was to lead his team to Duskhaven–Arden City on a special emergency mission.

Their target was a woman from Crestonia who, until recently, had maintained the image of a law-abiding citizen. However, higher-ups had uncovered her terrifying criminal affiliations.

In mere days, she had taken control of Arden City's underworld, bringing the notorious Duskhaven Triad—Maloney, Thein, and Hale—under her command.

She had become the latest prime target for international security agencies!

Carlson's mission was clear—eliminate the Blood Phoenix and rescue Silent Wing!

With little intel on Blood Phoenix, Carlson had been scrambling for information ever since he arrived in Arden City last night.

But before he could gather any useful intel, the Blood Phoenix showed up on his doorstep!

His sister! Of all people! His sister was the Blood Phoenix!

The very one who had seized control of Arden City's slums, commanded the Triad, and struck fear into both the underworld and law enforcement alike!

Carlson stood there, hands on his hips, glaring at his sister for what felt like an eternity before throwing a punch at Egbert, who stood beside him. "Is this how you look after my sister?"

Egbert didn't flinch, his lips barely moving as he remained silent.

Eileen, feeling cornered, didn't dare defend Egbert. She was caught red-handed.

Major Warner entered the room just then, pausing at the palpable tension in the air.

Major Warner had known Eileen since their days in survival training. Seeing the petite girl with her head hung so low it might disappear into her chest, he couldn't help but chime in, "Well, sure, she may have overstepped a bit, but at least Blood Phoenix is one of ours, not our enemy. Lighten up, Storm, she's Silent Wing's girlfriend. Let's cut her some slack for Silent Wing's sake."

Egbert: "..."

Eileen: "..."

Carlson: "..."

"Girl-friend?"

Carlson squinted his dark eyes, glancing between Eileen and Egbert, his face a shade of thunder. "Girlfriend?"

Egbert averted his eyes, looking anywhere but at Carlson.

Eileen stared intently at her shoes!

Major Warner added, "No lie about it."

He gave Egbert a reassuring pat on the shoulder, whispering, "Whether it's true or not, just go with it for now. Storm has a stubborn streak, and if he decides to handle this by the book, the girl could be in trouble."

Egbert: "..."

Egbert stood there silently, at a loss for words.

Carlson then stepped up to Eileen, demanding, "Is it true?"

Eileen: "..."

Her head drooped lower, though her ears turned a telltale shade of red.

Carlson caught sight of her ears and understood everything!

He closed his eyes, pressing his fingers to his temple as if trying to process it all.

Major Warner quickly interjected, "See, I told you so."

Carlson opened his eyes again, and asked Eileen, "Do Mom and Dad know?"

Major Warner: "?"

Eileen mumbled softly, "No, they don't..."

Major Warner: "??"

Carlson continued, "What about our big brother?"

Eileen whispered, "Not him either..."

Major Warner: "???"

Carlson paused for a moment, "I'm the first to know?"

Eileen scratched her head, discounting director Carrol, Paulina, and a few other random acquaintances...

She nodded cautiously, "...Yeah."

Carlson's expression softened a bit. He remained silent for a moment, then said, "Chin up! What are you scared of? I'm not gonna yell at you."

Eileen reluctantly raised her head, looking thoroughly chastised.

Carlson exhaled, giving her shoulder a gentle pat. His tone softened, "You're all grown up now. Your big brother can't control you forever. You'll get married one day; we just hoped it would be a little later. You barely call Mom and Dad, and now you’re talking about calling someone else your husband. Who in the family wouldn't find that hard to accept?"

Eileen's face flushed deep red, her cheeks burning. "Wh-what... marriage...?"

Carlson blinked, "You haven't reached that point yet?"

Eileen turned her head away, refusing to speak further.

Carlson chuckled, nodding, "That's a bit of a relief."

Major Warner: "?????????"

Seriously, can someone explain what's going on here?!
