Defying Fate: The Unstoppable Eileen novel Chapter 397

Eileen: "..."

The examiners: "..."

The examiners: "???"

The examiners: "!!!"

The world went completely silent.

Moments later, Commander Dirk was the first to react. Trying to keep his cool, he whispered to Major Morris, "It's a wrong number! Hang up quickly!"

Major Morris immediately reached for the phone!

But just as his fingers touched the screen, a calm male voice came from the other end, "Eileen?"

It wasn’t a wrong number!

Major Morris froze in place.

Commander Dirk's face turned a shade of thunderous.

The other instructors collectively took two steps back, gasping in unison.

Eileen was equally startled!

Feeling the intense scrutiny from all around, she swallowed hard, leaned toward the phone's microphone, and whispered, "Wh-why is it you?"

The voice on the other end sounded slightly impatient, "Don’t miss me?"

Eileen glanced nervously at the twenty-odd people frozen around her, lowered her voice further and said, "Of course I do, I mean... wait! The speaker's on!"

The voice on the phone went silent.

The monitoring room was enveloped in awkward tension once more.

Moments later, amidst the tight, awkward atmosphere, Egbert's composed voice came through again, "Stand at attention."

Eileen quickly stood at attention, her eyes darting around nervously.

Egbert continued in a formal tone, "Challenging the exam system? You think what you did was brave?"

Eileen stood tall, her voice firm, "Sir, Candidate Eileen did not challenge the exam system. Before the final exam, the examiners did not specify that the winning side could not assimilate the defeated side. Assimilation is a reasonable combat strategy, allowing for conflict resolution without further losses. Candidate Eileen does not see what she did wrong!"

Major Morris was too exasperated to laugh.

Commander Dirk frowned deeply.

The other instructors were just about to lay into her!

But then Egbert on the phone said, "That does make sense."

Major Morris, Commander Dirk: "?"

The other examiners: "???"

Egbert continued, "Just don’t let it happen again."

Major Morris, Commander Dirk: "???"

The other examiners: "?????"

Eileen stood even taller and replied loudly, "Yes, sir!"

The criticism lasted no more than three sentences.

Then the calm male voice on the phone said, "Eileen, turn off the speaker."

Eileen quickly grabbed the phone, turned off the speaker, and pressed it against her ear, speaking in a hushed tone, "My phone got confiscated! I need to talk to you urgently! Hang on, I'll find a better place to talk!"

Saying that, Eileen shoved the phone into her pocket, stood up straight, and addressed the examiners, "If there are no further issues, Candidate Eileen would like to leave now!"

Without waiting for a response, she dashed out of the cramped control room, as fast as a rabbit!

Eileen ran so fast, she could have outpaced a hare.

In the control room, the twenty-something examiners exchanged confused glances.

Moments later, Major Morris snapped back to reality, shouting, "That’s my phone!"

He rushed out, but outside, Eileen was nowhere to be seen!

Major Morris's face darkened. He called over two soldiers from the Army Base and ordered, "Bring Eileen back!"

Two minutes later, the remaining two hundred or so candidates standing under the bright streetlights watched in bewilderment as a figure in combat gear zipped past them.
