Bride To Be Not Me (Janice and Simon) novel Chapter 117

"Janice is a thoughtful woman. She doesn't like to trouble others," Edward explained.

The driver nodded.

Neither of them spoke further. After the driver dropped Edward off at home, a call came in.

"Mrs. Moore."

"Did you get them all home?"

"We just arrived, Mrs. Moore."

Barbara lowered her voice. "Did you notice anything?"

She had always suspected that Edward was lying to her. Perhaps he had randomly found a like-minded female companion and was just pretending to date her to avoid going on blind dates.

"Nothing particularly unusual. But Ms. Smith kept thanking him."

Barbara thought for a moment, "Why is she so polite to him?"

Was there a need to be so formal between couples?

"I understand. You should rest early too."

"Alright, Mrs. Moore."

Janice went home, took a shower, and lay down. It was then that Edward's video call came through. She straightened her clothes and answered the call.

He opened with, "From now on, don't be so polite with me. Can't you just act?"

"Act?"

Edward continued, "Fool yourself into believing I'm really your boyfriend. That way, you don't have to overthink what you should or shouldn't do. If you can't even fool yourself, how can you fool my family? After you got out of the car, my driver seemed to notice something was off."

Janice asked, "Isn't your driver supposed to be your guy?"

"Even if he works for me, who's to say he'll never betray me?" Edward didn't like taking risks, so he didn't even trust his own driver.

Plus, Barbara might not look intimidating, but she had her ways of getting to the bottom of things.
