Bride Behind the Mask novel Chapter 844

Marguerite despised Maurice, and she knew all too well that she had no real power to stand against him.

With a fierce glare in his direction, she wheeled her suitcase back to her room and locked the door behind her.

She pulled out her phone, contemplating calling Robert, hoping he could somehow get her out of this mess.

But that thought was quickly dismissed.

Sure, Robert had plenty of bodyguards at his disposal, and while they might not be able to confront Maurice head-on, they could probably help her escape.

But Miley was pregnant, and Marguerite feared that Maurice, out of spite, might harm Miley.

Once someone has a weakness, they become particularly vulnerable, and for Robert, that weakness was Miley and her unborn child.

So, Marguerite had no choice but to silently endure.

She stayed in her room, not emerging until it was time for work the next day, by which time Maurice had already left the apartment.

His company had just relocated to Cresthaven, and there was a lot for him to handle.

Yet Marguerite still felt no sense of freedom because every time she left, there was Charlotte, the so-called "personal assistant" Maurice had assigned to her.

In reality, Charlotte was nothing more than a blatant spy.

At Poppy Petal Fragrances, there wasn't even a desk for Charlotte; whenever Marguerite was busy, Charlotte just lounged on the sofa outside the glass-walled office.

One day, Chuck stopped by, and Marguerite noticed Charlotte standing up, as if trying to eavesdrop.

Thankfully, the glass walls were soundproof, but Chuck still lowered his voice:

"Marguerite, maybe you should tell President Penelope about this? Maurice's behavior is practically house arrest."

Marguerite rubbed her temples, feeling utterly drained from the constant mental chess game with Maurice.

"Let's not. The new branch just opened on the north side of town, and she's swamped. Besides, she's no match for Maurice, and picking a fight with him wouldn't benefit her."

"Are you safe? Has he done anything to you?"

Instinctively, Marguerite glanced towards Charlotte, finding her at the door of the glass office.
