Josephine felt like she had never been this embarrassed in her entire life. But after thinking it over, she reminded herself—she was Ethan's director. Technically speaking, that made her his boss. And what was there to be embarrassed about when a boss saw their subordinate? She was in charge here!
Bolstering her confidence, she lifted her head and purposely touched the waxed top of her head. "My look is pretty special, isn't it?"
To her surprise, Ethan didn't make fun of her. Instead, he looked at her with a hint of sympathy. "I'm going with you tonight."
"You're coming with me? Why?"
"Morgan had something come up. Besides, he wasn't confident he could protect you in that kind of setting. So, I volunteered, and he agreed."
That idiot. If he had told her earlier, she wouldn't have gone through all this trouble with her disguise! Even though she wasn't sure why she trusted him so much, knowing Ethan would be there made her feel a lot more relaxed.
"In that case, I'll go change."
Josephine was about to head upstairs when Ethan grabbed her wrist—briefly, just for a second—before letting go. "It takes at least 40 minutes to get to the Boathouse, and it's already 7:30 pm. Do you want to be late?"
Considering how important Matthew was, she definitely couldn't be late. Josephine pointed to her nose. "So, what? You expect me to go looking like this?"
Ethan chuckled. "Weren't you planning to go like this anyway?"
Well, yes. But that was when she was going with Morgan! The thought of walking next to someone as impeccably handsome as Ethan while looking like this made her incredibly uncomfortable. But there was no time to change. As much as she hated it, she grabbed her bag and followed him out.
