Otis snarled, "Annalise and I were about to reconcile, but all the nonsense you were saying online angered her. Now, she doesn't want to partner up with me anymore."
Upon hearing that, Jessica could guess what happened. She carefully asked, "Should I clear things up online?"
"It's no use."
When he saw how cooperative Jessica was, Otis was left speechless. After a long pause, he said, "She's not an idiot. Forget it; I'll figure it out.
"But you should be careful with what you say—if you say anything odd again, I'll make sure you pay for it!"
Jessica smiled and said, "No problem."
…
On my way back to the office, I passed by a coffee shop, so I bought Zane a cup of coffee.
Meanwhile, my mind was occupied with how Otis helped Jessica, and he also helped Yelena to try to win Zane over. I wondered if Otis thought I was an idiot who would willingly sacrifice for him even when he had done all that to me.
I hadn't expected his measly bit of fatherly love to last very long. Just then, a notification came through. I checked my phone only to see a message.
"We've scouted most of Otis' employees, as well as many of his factory workers. They're attracted by the better benefits at our factory. Also, Otis is unaware. At this rate, it won't take long before Otis' company becomes an empty shell."
"Very well," I thought, putting my phone away in my bag.
Otis was scheming against me, and I was also tricking Otis in my own ways. But on the surface, we had a harmonious relationship. From now on, it would be about who had the better acting skills and better strategies.
