That sentence carried a heavy implication. Felicia and Maurice exchanged a glance, both ready to press for answers, but before they could, one of the middle-aged women abruptly yanked the young bride aside.

"What nonsense are you spouting?" she scolded. "Hurry up and change out of that gown. I need to adjust the waistline for you."

The young bride obediently responded and disappeared into the house to change.

Felicia remained deep in thought about what she had just heard. Did that young lady mean that the villagers wouldn't let them leave? Or was she implying that the island itself was permanently shrouded in fog, trapping anyone who set foot on it?
